Projections of population growth established in 2015 predict that the human population will keep growing until at least 2050, reaching an estimated 8 billion people in 2024 and 9 billion by 2040, while the 7 billion milestone was reached in 2011. As the demographic transition follows its course worldwide, the population will age significantly, with most countries outside Africa trending towards a rectangular age pyramid.

According to the 2015 edition of the United Nations’ World Population Prospects report, the world population is currently growing by approximately 83 million people each year. The growth rate keeps slowing, having decreased from 1.55% per year in 1995 to 1.25% in 2005 and 1.18% in 2015. The median estimate for future growth sees the world population reaching 9.7 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion in 2100

“Declining population means a smaller workforce and lower tax rolls. In nearly every case youth is the most-depleted age group, depriving countries of future economic benefits. The cause is often brain drain, whereby the most educated or skilled citizens sense limited opportunities at home and choose to emigrate. Certain regions will see the greatest proportional decline.”

“The aging and decreasing population is a serious problem in many developed countries today. In Japan’s case, these demographic changes are taking place at a more rapid pace than any other country has ever experienced.”

In 2009, the Japanese government started a program that would pay parents $3,400 a year for every child they have, this was in an effort to boost birthrates. It is a problem because without any new babies being born, the future of Japan will completely depend on foreigners, furthermore, the aging population will mean that the government will have to pay most of its money on retired people. “Japan actually is an aging population, and so as the population has aged, they have had a lot more problems with health.”

In Russia, the population is decreasing because of high death rate of 15 deaths per 1000 people per year. This is due to people drinking too much alcohol, particularly vodka. A study in Lancet, says that 25% of Russians die before they become 55. In Addition the birth rate is very low in, the birth rate crude is 10 births per 1000 people, which are, bellow the world average (20 per 1000).

“Due to population pressures, people now live in areas that are basically unsafe. Hundred of thousands of people died in 2010-2011 because they lived on floodplains in Pakistan or by the tsunami-prone coast of Japan. These regions were sparsely populated 30 years ago.”

“For the last 50 years, world population multiplied more rapidly than ever before, and more rapidly than it is projected to grow in the future. In 1950, the world had 2.5 billion people; and in 2005, the world had 6.5 billion people. By 2050, this number could rise to more than 9 billion.”

This shows that the population is increasing dramatically in the last few years. Eventually we could get into a point where we wouldn’t have any food/shelter for everybody. We need to focus on the population growth of countries to sustain the population.
